Week 25!

Olivia:
Olivia's developed oil and sweat glands are now functioning. Her fingernails, toenails, eyebrows and eyelashes are now fully present and will continue to grow until birth. She can respond to sound and can hear me and those around me. Although we assume that the uterus is a quiet place, Olivia has been surrounded by noise for a long time. Things like my heartbeat, digestion, other body functions (does that mean gas?) and external noises are heard by her.
Olivia is now about 14 inches and weighs a little less than two pounds. She is now the size of a 1/2 gallon of milk.
The uterus also allows some light to be seen so Olivia is aware of light and dark. Her skin is wrinkled and translucent and may have a reddish color due to the presence of dermal blood vessels. Veins are visible through your baby's skin, although it is quickly changing from transparent to opaque. The following months will see increase in body fat. The lungs continue to mature with the development of air sacs and also begin to secrete surfactant (a substance that will help your baby's lungs expand at birth). At this stage of development the various organs have formed.
Mommy and Daddy:

Once again every week brings more and more excitement. We bought a crib this weekend! Rudy continues to think that she is just way too spoiled, I mean after all she has both a bassinet and a crib and she is not even born yet. Haha! We also went to the movies this weekend and when the sound got loud I was able to feel Olivia move. It is exciting to feel her being to react to the real world. While in the movies Rudy leaned over to me and told me that the content of the movie was inappropriate for the little girls sitting a couple rows ahead of us. This makes me realized he is slowing stepping into the role of being a father and that he will be very protective of our little one.
